Keeping the Connection: How to be a Compassionate Leader in Trying Times

Morning Breakout Session II 11:15-12:15

This session will explore the tenants of compassionate leadership and how to build and maintain supportive connections between higher education leaders, staff, and faculty. The session will discuss the value of compassionate leadership when navigating social and environmental challenges and provide practical methods for incorporating compassion and gratitude both personally and professionally.

By the end of this session, participants will learn:

·       About compassionate leadership philosophy and models

·       The value of compassionate leadership when navigating social and environmental challenges

·       Practical methods for incorporating compassion and gratitude both personally and professionally.

 

This session will incorporate self-reflective exercises, group discussion, and a closing group meditation.

Stephanie Kirylych (she/her) has over 20 years of higher education leadership and coaching experience. She is currently the Director of Advising at the University of New Hampshire Manchester. Along her advising role, Stephanie teaches First Year Seminar and The Mindful Leader.

She is also the co-founder of Growing Presence Consulting, offering mindfulness and emotional intelligence workshops and coaching. She has a Master of Education degree from Northeastern University and completed the health coach program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She is currently enrolled in the Higher Education, Administrative Leadership doctoral program at Plymouth State University. Stephanie is a certified EQ-i 2.0®/EQ 360® coach and a Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults (MIEA) teacher-in-training. Her areas of expertise include academic advising, meditation, mindful leadership, holistic health, and emotional intelligence.

Lisa Enright (she/her/hers) has over 25 years of higher education teaching and leadership experience. She is currently the Assistant Dean of Student Success at the University of New Hampshire Manchester. Along with her Assistant Dean role, Lisa teaches Resiliency and Student Success, Exploring Leadership, and Community Leadership Capstone.

She is also the co-founder of Growing Presence Consulting, offering mindfulness and emotional intelligence workshops and coaching. Lisa has a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Learning from Rivier University and a Master of Arts degree from State University of New York Albany. She is a certified EQ-i 2.0®/EQ 360® coach, NASPA Certified Peer Educator Trainer, and a Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults (MIEA)teacher-in-training. Lisa’s areas of expertise include positive psychology, gratitude, leadership theory and practice, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence.
