The Role of Higher Education in a Sustainable Future

This session will consider the pressing sustainability challenges of our time, and help us consider the role that higher education can, and some would say, must, play in helping assure a sustainable future. We’ll learn more about what sustainability encompasses, and we’ll consider a case study of one university, UNH, a recognized national leader in sustainability in higher education. The session will include breakout sessions and reflections to help each of us consider the role we can play in sustainability through our professional lives in higher education, or in our personal lives.

Presenter:

Dr. Fiona Wilson is the Deputy Chief Sustainability Officer for the University of New Hampshire, Director of UNH's Sustainability Institute. Previously Fiona was a faculty member at the Paul College of Business & Economics at UNH, and the Simmons College School of Management. As a faculty member Fiona’s teaching and research focuses on how innovative and responsible business approaches can be harnessed to help tackle the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Prior to her academic career, Fiona spent fifteen years in the business world, including as VP of Marketing for CMGI, an internet investment and operating company, and in various roles at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising in both London and Barcelona.
